Did you know that the average user spends three hours and sixteen minutes each day – or the equivalent of almost one full day a week on their smartphone or tablet? (see more here)
The more I read the above article and researched (online of course), the more I associated with the issue. So this weekend, starting at 18:00 on Friday (when I finish work) I will be commencing a Digital Detox! This means that the phone is switched off and the laptop stays at work.
No route planner, no sat nav, no alarm on my phone (it’ll just be too tempting to have a ‘quick look’ at Facebook if I use flight mode for that) – I’ll have to dig out my watch!
I have set an away message on my emails, written down my train times, I have printed directions to our hotel for Saturday night and we will confirm plans for the walk in the Brecon Beacons before we switch off and that’ll be that!
My phone will be left at home, in a drawer, the boyfriend will find this almost too easy so we will turn his off but take it with us in case of emergencies.
Oh I’ve also let my sister know since we message each other every day and she will almost definitely think I’ve been in some horrific accident resulting in a very dramatic death.
Good job I have a couple of books that I’ve been meaning to read…
